Password generator

Create strong, random passwords using your browser's secure random number generator. Passwords are never sent anywhere.

Strength

What makes a password strong

Length matters most. Each extra character multiplies the number of possible passwords, so a random 16-character password with mixed characters would take longer than the age of the universe to guess by brute force. Avoid words, names, dates and keyboard patterns, which attackers try first.

Good password habits

Use a different password for every account, so one leak can't unlock the rest. Store them in a password manager, and turn on two-step verification wherever it's offered, especially for email, banking and social media. The National Cyber Security Centre also suggests three random words as a memorable alternative for passwords you need to type often.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to use an online password generator?

This one generates passwords on your own device using the browser's cryptographic random number generator. Nothing is sent to or stored on our servers.

How long should a password be?

At least 12 characters, and 16 or more for important accounts such as email and banking. Length adds more strength than complexity.

How do I remember lots of random passwords?

Use a password manager. It stores them securely, fills them in for you, and means you only need to remember one strong master password.
